blood donors provide life saving blood
to other pets when they need it most.
We understand that pets are family, and sometimes, they need lifesaving blood transfusions. That’s where our incredible team of brave canine and feline blood donors come in to help us treat a wide range of conditions. Blood transfusions are a critical part of treatment for many pets. This is why we have established our community blood donor program to help provide a safe, consistent supply of blood for pets in need
no matter the hour.
Why pets may need blood:
There is a variety of reasons a pet may need a blood transfusion. Severe blood loss (haemorrhage) from surgery or trauma, immune disorders like IMHA (Immune Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia) that attack the body's own red blood cells, or anaemia caused by parasite infections all may require a transfusion. If your pet is exposed to toxins, such as anticoagulat rodenticide poisoning or snake envenomations, they may need blood products. In these urgent situations, having a reliable blood supply can be the key to saving a beloved pet's life.

Canine Eligibility
• 1-7 years old
• Over 20kg
• Up to date on vaccinations and other health care preventatives like flea, tick, intestinal & heart worming
• Never received a blood transfusion
• No history of serious illness
• Friendly temperament
Feline Eligibility
• 1-7 years old
• Over 4kgs
• Indoor-only lifestyle
• Up to date on vaccinations and other health care preventatives like flea, tick and worming
• Never received a blood transfusion
• Friendly temperament
• FIV/FeLV negative
The Donation Process
The donation process is quick, gentle, and rewarding! Your pet will receive complimentary:
• Vet checks
• Annual blood tests
• Blood typing
• 3kg bag of dry Hills Food
• VECA lifesavers club merch
• Lots of chicken, cuddles and praise
