Veterinary Surgery in Campbelltown and Norwest
VECA performs veterinary surgery at both of our hospitals, in Campbelltown and at Norwest in Rouse Hill. We cover orthopaedic, soft tissue, trauma and reconstructive procedures, and because both hospitals are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, an operation can go ahead at 3 am on a public holiday if that is when your pet needs it.

Emergency pet surgery, any hour
Our theatres run around the clock. When a pet arrives in a critical state, our team can move from triage to diagnostics to the operating table inside the same building, without transferring your pet elsewhere.

Emergency pet surgeries we perform include exploratory abdominal surgery, foreign body removal, gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV, or bloat), emergency caesarean sections, trauma and wound repair, and internal bleeding.
Emergency cases are walk-in. You do not need an appointment or a referral to bring your pet in. Call ahead if you can so our team is ready for you, but if your pet is in trouble right now, get in the car.

The team and the theatres
Animal surgery is only as good as the team and the equipment behind it. VECA has two dedicated surgery theatres kept as sterile environments, advanced anaesthetic monitoring technology used throughout every procedure, and separate recovery wards for dogs and cats so patients recover away from the stress of the other species.

Our surgical work is led by Dr Mo Sherif, a veterinary surgeon with MANZCVS (Small Animal Surgery). Complex patients are also supported by our wider hospital team, including internal medicine specialist Dr Matteo Bordicchia (DECVIM) and board-certified veterinary cardiologist Dr Brittany Stewart (DVM, MPH, DACVIM – Cardiology) through the All-Hearts Service, so cases with heart disease or complicated medical histories are assessed properly before anaesthesia rather than after.

Because both hospitals are staffed overnight, post-operative patients receive 24/7 monitoring and recovery support. Nobody goes home to an empty building.

Diagnostics before the decision
Deciding whether an animal needs surgery is a diagnostic question first. Both hospitals run digital X-ray, ultrasound including point-of-care and abdominal scanning, and in-house laboratory testing, so bloods and imaging come back in the same visit rather than days later.

CT imaging is available on site, with scans interpreted and reviewed by board-certified radiologists where that is needed. For orthopaedic planning and complex head, chest and spinal cases, that level of detail changes what we can offer.
Scheduled pet surgery and referrals
Not everything is an emergency. Specialised veterinary surgery is scheduled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which gives us dedicated theatre time and a planned anaesthetic protocol for each patient.

If you are a pet owner, you can contact us directly to discuss a procedure. If your own vet has recommended surgery, they can refer your pet to us by phone or through our online referral form. We work alongside your regular vet rather than replacing them, and we send case notes back so your pet's ongoing care stays with the practice that knows them.

Before any planned pet surgery, our team will discuss the procedure, the anaesthetic, the likely recovery and the cost with you, and give you a written estimate. No surgery comes with a guaranteed outcome, so we will be clear with you about the risks and what to expect. What we can promise is that you will understand the plan before you consent to it.
What recovery looks like
Recovery after veterinary surgery depends entirely on the procedure and the patient. An orthopaedic patient after a TPLO has a much longer and more structured rehabilitation than a pet who had a small mass removed.

Your discharge appointment will cover pain relief, wound care, activity restriction and when to come back for a recheck. Follow the instructions you are given for your specific pet rather than general advice you find online, and call us if anything about the wound, your pet's appetite or their comfort concerns you after hours.

Our Campbelltown hospital on Blaxland Road takes surgical patients from Bradbury, Glen Alpine, Ambarvale, Ingleburn, Minto, Leumeah, Rosemeadow, St Helens Park and the wider Macarthur region. Our Norwest hospital at Rouse Hill covers the Hills District, including Bella Vista, Kellyville, Castle Hill and Baulkham Hills.
